GOLDEN, Colo.—A man accused of plotting to kill a poker tour operator by putting him in a box with rattlesnakes pleaded guilty Monday to one count of extortion.
Thirty-four-year-old Christopher Lee Steelman of Lakewood was accused with Herbert Paul Beck of trying to kill Matthew Sowash because Sowash owed Beck $60,000. Sowash is owner of Amateur Poker Tour in Wheat Ridge.
Beck pleaded guilty to extortion Nov. 16 and is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 22. Steelman is to be sentenced Feb. 4. Both could face two to six years in prison.
