GOLDEN — An inquiry has been launched into a business started by four Jefferson County Regional SWAT team members that offered to provide training to other law enforcement agencies.
Tac-One Consulting’s training reportedly involved tactics learned during SWAT-involved incidents, including shootings at Columbine and Platte Canyon high schools. Jefferson County Sheriff Ted Mink said Thursday that he and other command staff members learned about the business Tuesday afternoon. The business and its website were shut down.
“There was nothing illegal about it,” Mink said. “The idea was noble, but the way they went about it and charging a fee lacked forethought.”
Mink said any lessons learned from situations such as Columbine and Platte Canyon should be shared with other agencies without cost.
The SWAT officers didn’t follow department policy that requires off-duty work to be approved, Mink said.
