U.S. Rep. Tom Udall, right, of New Mexico formally announced Thursday that he will seek the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat being vacated by retiring GOP Sen. Pete Domenici. After Domenici announced he would retire in 2009 because of an incurable brain disease, Udall initially said he would stay in the House. Staff members said he reconsidered after a “groundswell” of encouragement from New Mexicans.
