Western State wrestlers Larry Wilbanks and Donovan McMahill advanced to the round of 16 before bowing out of the Cliff Keen/Las Vegas Invitational on Saturday.

Wilbanks, ranked No. 1 in Division II at 174 pounds, recorded two victories over D-I opponents before being sent to the consolation bracket with a 9-3 loss to the third seed, Steve Luke of Michigan. Wilbanks won two consolation matches before being eliminated 7-1 by Brandon Browne of Nebraska.

McMahill, a 197-pounder, had a similar first three matches, winning two and then losing to a Michigan wrestler. McMahill also got a pin and a decision in the consolation bracket before being losing 7-0 to North Carolina’s Dennis Drury. The Mountaineers finished 29th in the team standings.

Wyoming placed 37th, getting three wins from 165-pounder Eric Coxbill. Cory VomBaur (133) and Cole Dallaserra (141) each got two wins.
