While most resorts wait until spring to celebrate the ski season, Vail is setting the pace for winter 2007-08 this week during Vail Snow Daze.
The nation’s biggest early-season mountain bash officially got underway Monday, although the party doesn’t really catch fire until Ziggy Marley takes the stage at Dobson Ice Arena at 7 p.m. Thursday. Social Distortion is at Dobson on Friday (7 p.m.) with Ludacris and The Roots capping off the festivities at an outdoor show in Ford Park at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Where does the snow come in? That’d be during the daylight hours, when the Vail Snowsports School offers free ski tips daily, Skiing magazine hosts on-mountain gear demos and the ladies can participate in the three-day “Her Turn” women’s ski/snowboard clinic during the event.
Revelers will also want to check out Saturday’s Dummy Gelunde World Championships and daily snowball-eating contests.
