While his name has been mentioned in Illinois media among a lengthy list of candidates for the new Northwestern athletic director’s vacancy, Colorado State AD Paul Kowalczyk said through a Rams department spokesman he has not been contacted.
Kowalczyk previously headed the athletic department at Southern Illinois.
Outlaws select ex-DU star.
The Denver Outlaws selected seven players Wednesday in the 2007 Major League Lacrosse supplemental draft, including former University of Denver standout Ryan Zordani.
Among the Outlaws’ selections were midfielder Brian Jacovina, taken with the seventh pick after he was left by the Boston Cannons; and Zordani, a Littleton native, who was taken in the sixth round.
UNC’s White takes medical leave.
Northern Colorado women’s basketball coach Jaime White has taken a medical leave for an unspecified amount of time, UNC athletic director Jay Hinrichs said. Assistant coach Paige Sauer took White’s place on the bench Wednesday night against Air Force.
Fort Lewis names Higgins AD.
Fort Lewis named Kelly J. Higgins its athletic director. Higgins, who had been running a specialized sports consulting service, takes over for Kent Stanley, who resigned in November. Higgins has past experience as an AD at American University, Alaska-Fairbanks and South Dakota.
Rage turns to front office for help.
The Rocky Mountain Rage signed a front-office employee as a backup goalie for the remainder of starter Terry Dunbar’s suspension. Hugh Boylan, who works as an account executive for the Rage’s parent company, Broomfield Sports and Entertainment, signed a contract and was in uniform Wednesday night for a game against Wichita. Dunbar was suspended 15 games Tuesday by the Central Hockey League for his role in a fight.
