Frontier Airlines says Federal Aviation Administration certification for its turboprop subsidiary Lynx Aviation is on track but that it is awaiting U.S. Department of Transportation final authority before starting Lynx flights. Frontier said it expects to start Lynx flights Friday or later. Lynx will fly Q400 turboprop planes from Denver to Rapid City, S.D.; Sioux City, Iowa; Wichita; Billings, Mont.; Albuquerque; and Tulsa, Okla. It also eventually plans to fly to mountain resorts.
The wait for DOT authority comes after a series of delays. Frontier originally intended to begin flying Lynx last summer, but the start date was delayed until October, and then until December.
Frontier started flying the Rapid City, Sioux City and Wichita routes with other planes from regional partners Horizon, Republic and ExpressJet. It will replace those planes with the Lynx turboprops.
