Getting your player ready...

So long, Sam.

That would be Sam Adams. Nice guy, still a pretty good player. After opening training camp as a starter, Adams on Tuesday became the latest casualty on the Broncos’ defensive line.

Adams was waived after 11 starts. Nothing out of the ordinary there in this, the most tumultuous season of the Mike Shanahan era.

How tumultuous has it been? Consider this: Three of the four starting D linemen on the opening day of camp are gone. Ebenezer Ekuban has missed the season with a torn Achilles, Gerard Warren was traded to the Raiders, and now Adams has hit the waiver wire. Oh, and that doesn’t include Amon Gordon and Simeon Rice, two other defensive linemen who’ve come and gone.

Know this about the Broncos: They aren’t going to turn things around until the shuffling of the deck on the defensive line stops. They desperately need rookies Marcus Thomas, Tim Crowder and Jarvis Moss to become impact players.

And while we’re on the subject, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to find some help at linebacker, too.
