
Merrymakers will buy about 30 million live Christmas trees this year. But among decorating aficionados, the holiday trend is toward vivid, pre-lit tinsel trees. The hottest hues in artificial trees tend to follow fashion trends, according to Carrie Chen with . “For 2007,” she says, “purple is the must-have color.” Chen suggests using fashion-colored trees for kids-only decorating projects, to create off-color Christmas displays, to celebrate winter holidays other than Christmas, or as an accessory to a traditional live tree. Here are some colorful tree offerings.
1.”Kitschy-chic” trees are $24-$68 at Urban Outfitters. Available in hip hues like pink, red, lime green and black.
2. Holiday trees should reflect a homeowner’s personal style, according to The Home Depot. That store stocks silver, pink, red and white trees — ideal for holiday “modernists.”
