University of Colorado inside linebacker Jordon Dizon was named to the prestigious Walter Camp All-America team Thursday during the ESPN Home Depot awards show in Orlando, Fla.
It is the sixth time a Colorado linebacker has earned first-team All-America honors and the first since Matt Russell in 1996. The others were Bud Magrum in 1972, Alfred Williams and Kanavis McGhee in 1989, and Williams again in 1990.
Dizon, a 6-foot, 225-pound senior from Kauai, Hawaii, is one of three finalists for the Butkus Award, which goes to the nation’s top linebacker.
He also was named the Big 12 defensive player of the year by the league’s coaches.
Arkansas running back Darren McFadden was honored as the 2007 player of the year by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. McFadden, a junior, beat four quarterbacks for the award: Chase Daniel of Missouri, Dennis Dixon of Oregon, Matt Ryan of Boston College and Tim Tebow of Florida.
