A third-party candidate has emerged in the 2nd Congressional District race to replace Mark Udall, who is running for Senate.

Bill Hammons, a Unity Party candidate, plans to officially kick off his campaign next week, he said Thursday.

Hammons said he will focus on the need for a balanced budget, the development of carbon-free energy without slowing economic growth and resolving the crisis in Iraq.

“I’m not going to talk about Tweedledum’s accusation that Tweedledee bought a traveling companion to Iraq,” he said, taking an early jab at Democratic opponents Joan Fitz-Gerald and Jared Polis.

Democrat Will Shafroth is also seeking the seat. No Republican candidate has filed.
