DENVER—Joe Jackson scored a season-high 22 points as Denver defeated Northern Colorado 69-53 Saturday, avenging a double-digit loss to the Bears last month.
Denver (3-4) closed the first half with a 10-2 run to take a 29-20 lead into halftime, then shot 64 percent from the field in the second half to pull away.
Jabril Banks scored 16 points to lead Northern Colorado (5-3).
The Bears used a 7-0 run to get within 44-40 midway through the second half. A 3-pointer by David Kummer and a jumper by Kyle Lewis jumper put the Pioneers ahead 49-40 with 7:20 remaining, and Northern Colorado couldn’t catch up.
Northern Colorado had defeated Denver 64-46 on Nov. 17 in Greeley.
Denver was without guard Tyler Bullock on Saturday. Coach Joe Scott said Friday that Bullock had left the team to be closer to his family in Lincoln, Neb.
