DAVID CITY, Neb. — The American Pit Bull Rescue Association has put a $10,000 deposit on a 160-acre farm in Butler County that it wants to use for a rescue kennel.
But the county’s proposed zoning changes could put the project in jeopardy.
The rescue group bought the property at a Nov. 30 auction for $416,000, expecting to use it for the Good Newz Dog Hotel, a national rescue kennel for abused pit bulls.
Before the purchase was finalized, president David Hibler said, he tried to e-mail the county attorney to gauge support for the project. Technical problems prevented the e-mail from being delivered, he said.
Butler County zoning laws do not ban rescue dog kennels, but officials are working on a comprehensive zoning plan that could affect the rescue group’s plans.
