A federal grand jury has indicted nine people — including several family members — on drug-trafficking charges, authorities said Wednesday.

Authorities said members of the Fresquez family and others were responsible for the distribution of methamphetamine, cocaine, prescription narcotics and marijuana throughout Boulder County and the Denver metropolitan area.

Shawn Caekaert, Benjamin Fresquez Jr., Eleanor Fresquez, George Fres quez, Matthew Fresquez, David Michael Romero, Michael Townsend, Alanna Turnbaugh and Samuel Vigil were named in the indictments.

The nine were charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine, oxycodone, diazepam and marijuana from March 2006 through September.

The indictment is the result of an 18-month undercover and wiretap investigation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the multi-agency Boulder County Drug Task Force.

If convicted, the defendants could face a maximum of 40 years’ imprisonment.
