GOLDEN, Colo.—Former Colorado School of Mines quarterback Chad Friehauf, who won the Harlon Hill Trophy as the top Division II football player in 2004, is returning to the Orediggers’ basketball team, Coach Pryor Orser said Wednesday.

Friehauf had redshirted as a true freshman on the basketball team in 2001-02.

Friehauf earned a civil engineering degree from the school in 2005 and signed a free-agent contract with the Denver Broncos that year. He appeared in one preseason game for the Broncos before being released.

He has returned to Mines to pursue an undergraduate degree in economics and business, the school said.
