Internet recruiting sites reported Wednesday the Colorado football program has landed four-star offensive guard Max Tuioti-Mariner (6-feet-4, 300 pounds) of Corona (Calif.) High School. Tuioti-Mariner told that he picked CU over Oregon, California and Hawaii because “you just know (when it is) the right place for you, and that happened for me at Colorado.”
Friehauf returns to Mines.
Chad Friehauf, the 2004 Harlon Hill Trophy winner as the top Division II football player, will return to Colorado Mines — to play basketball. The 6-foot-5 quarterback-turned-forward from Brush is back at Mines to pursue a second undergraduate degree. He played hoops in 2002-03.
Matalon leaving Wyoming program.
Wyoming freshman point guard Marios Matalon is leaving the Cowboys’ basketball team and will return to his home in Greece, coach Heath Schroyer said.
CSU middle blocker Barnes honored.
Colorado State middle blocker Mekana Barnes was named a third-team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Barnes was the only player in the nation in the top 10 in hitting percentage and blocks per game.
