Motion Picture Soundtrack, “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” (Nonesuch)

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are working together again, this time on Stephen Sondheim’s operatic musical about a murderous barber. This musical soundtrack also features supporting actors Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen and Alan Rickman. Early reviews say that Sondheim fans won’t be disappointed. We’ll see.

Mary J. Blige, “Growing Pains” (Geffen)

“Just Fine” is the lead single off this, Blige’s eighth full-length record of edged-out soul/R&B. The second single, “Work That,” is all over the new iPod/iTunes commercial. After selling 40 million-plus records, Blige knows what the people want. And this record is a strong follow-up to 2005’s “The Breakthrough.”
