BAGHDAD — The U.S. military has released an Iranian detainee, U.S. and Iranian officials said Wednesday, as the two countries prepare for new talks on security in Iraq.

There was no immediate information about the charges against the man, who returned to Iran on Wednesday, according to the Iranian Embassy. A U.S. military spokesman said that he was released because he was determined to no longer be a threat to the security of Iraq.
