Personal issues may draw smirks and interesting discussion around the coffee machine.
The truth about Travis Henry, however, is all that time spent in the training room, not time in court, is what had the greatest impact on his disappointing year.
His off-field distractions were there from the beginning, yet through four games Henry was leading all NFL backs, even Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson, in rushing. But then came some busted-up ribs against Pittsburgh and a torn knee ligament against Detroit, and Henry was never the same.
During this offseason, Henry vows to adjust in hopes of preventing future injuries.
“I’ve got to find a different type of fitness,” said Henry, who also missed most of the preseason with a knee injury. “I’m going to train, and I’m going to train smarter. This year, I don’t know what it was. I don’t know if it was everything that was going on, but I kept getting nicked up here and there and I’ve never been nicked up like that. I just think I need some one-on-one training.”
Henry has a favorite personal trainer from his days in Nashville with the Titans. Henry said he plans to bring the trainer to Denver to work out with the Broncos’ program, and his own.
“It hasn’t gone as planned for anybody, not just me,” Henry said. “We had a lot of expectations for the team, period. It’s been a disappointing season, without a doubt. Speaking for myself personally, the way the season went, I didn’t plan for it to go that way. But it did. Learn from it and now it’s all about coming back.”
