A 47-year-old Grand Junction man died today after his Ford F-450 truck crashed into a motorized crane traveling east on Interstate 70 near Fruita.

The crane was traveling about 35 mph when the truck hit it from behind. The vehicles were stuck together and the truck driver had to be extricated from his vehicle.

He was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The crane driver was a 37-year-old man from Salt Lake City. He was uninjured.

State officials do not think alcohol or drugs were a factor.
