Police officers shot and killed a Rottweiler after it bit a woman in the leg and then menaced the officers, officials say.

The woman was attacked Thursday afternoon near 45th Avenue and Carson Street in Montbello, said Sonny Jackson, Denver police spokesman. She was not seriously injured, Jackson said.

When officers arrived, they stayed near a pair of Rottweilers, including the one that bit the woman to make sure they didn’t attack anyone else, he said.

But when small children with a small dog approached, the Rottweilers became aggressive and menaced the officers, Jackson said.

One of the dogs was killed, and the other was taken to an animal shelter, he said.
