A family friend said Monday that Princess Diana told him her relationship with Dodi Fayed was “all over” just two weeks before the couple died in a car crash in Paris in August 1997.

Under questioning at the British inquest into the deaths, Rodney Turner conceded that Diana might have told other friends something different. Turner, a car dealer and longtime friend of Diana’s family, said he had told the princess he opposed her relationship with Fayed based on his opinion of Fayed’s father.

Turner said Diana’s statement “was really a shock to me.”
