COLORADO SPRINGS — Matthew Murray, the 24-year-old gunman who killed four people at two religious organizations on Dec. 9, put his weapon in his mouth and fired, causing a fatal wound, according to an autopsy report released today.

Murray also suffered two “distant” gunshot wounds to the left thigh, causing injuries to the skin and muscle that were described by El Paso County Coroner Robert Bux as “superficial.”

Murray was wearing a black ammo vest over a gray jacket and a long-sleeved shirt with the inscription: “Crapple of Faith.” He also donned black SWAT-type cargo pants, black knee pads and black combat boots. An orange cord necklace with a pair of earplugs, a black cord necklace with two pentagrams and an eye of Ra medallion were found around his neck. He had $239.50 in his pocket.

In the right pocket of his pants was a red paperback: “The Book of the Law.”

Drug screens indicated the presence of amphetamine and benzodiazepine — a tranquilizer, according to the autopsy report.
