A search for two missing snow boarders in the southern Colorado mountains continues today with searchers getting a break from wintry weather.
Searchers, headed by the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office, will use a helicopter today trying to find two Albuquerque men who have been missing since Saturday.
“We were waiting for the weather to clear,” said Sandy Kroll, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman. “It’s clear and we have sunshine today.”
The sheriff’s office identified the missing pair as Michael George and Kyle Kerscher, both 27.
A car belonging to one of the men was towed from the ski-area parking lot.
Wolf Creek Ski Area received more than 48 inches of snow from a weekend storm that continued through Monday. Overnight temperatures on the mountain were below zero degrees.
More than 40 people are searching for the two men today, including members of the Wolf Creek Ski Patrol, the Upper San Juan Search and Rescue, San Juan National Forest officials, and the Mineral, Archuleta and Rio Grande County sheriff’s offices.
