Authorities arrested a Weld County man this afternoon, who they suspect led them on a high-speed chase earlier this week on Interstate-25 and rammed a patrol car, injuring a patrol officer.
Zachariah P. Chavez, 26, was arrested about 2:15 p.m. at Highway 7 and I-25 at the LarkRidge Shopping Center in Thornton.
He faces charges of eluding, hit and run, criminal mischief, false imprisonment and reckless endangerment, authorities said.
The three passengers involved in the pursuit were released without charges.
A Colorado State Patrol officer tried to stop a white Volkswagen Jetta as it was going north at 10:58 a.m. Tuesday about five miles south of Longmont, CSP spokesman Ryan Sullivan said.
The officer, whose name has not been released, received minor injuries, Sullivan said.
The state patrol said Chavez had been involved in a earlier pursuit on Monday in Weld County. He is considered armed and dangerous.
In Tuesday’s chase, the white Volkswagen Jetta drove above 100 mph while breaking numerous traffic laws, Sullivan said.
The suspect exited I-25 at Longmont and headed west on Highway 119, he said.
He crashed into a patrol car. At some point two passengers jumped out of the car and were immediately arrested, Sullivan said.
The suspect then crashed into a Shell station near Turner Road, he said.
