SANTA FE — New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson formally ended his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination Thursday after poor finishes in the first two contests in Iowa and New Hampshire.
“It is with great pride, understanding and acceptance that I am ending my campaign for president of the United States,” he told supporters gathered at the New Mexico Capitol.
The two-term governor praised his Democratic rivals and predicted one of them would win the White House in November — but he did not endorse any of them.
