Brett Favre can rest easy.
Instead of playing at the Dallas Cowboys’ Texas Stadium, where the three-time MVP is 0-9 in his career, the Green Bay Packers will host the NFC championship game Sunday against the New York Giants.
“I really haven’t had time to digest it,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said after the Giants advanced with a 21-17 victory over the Cowboys. “I’m just excited about having the game here at Lambeau Field.”
A November clash of 10-1 teams left Dallas with the inside track for home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs. The Packers and Cowboys both finished 13-3 and had first-round byes.
Green Bay advanced by beating Seattle 42-20, but top-seeded Dallas couldn’t hold up its end of the deal for a potential rematch.
“We’d love to play at home,” Favre said after the Packers won Saturday at Lambeau Field. “We haven’t had a whole lot of success in Dallas. I’m well aware of that, but I’m just pleased that we won this game and gave ourselves an opportunity.”
Now Favre gets that chance at home, where he is 8-2 in the postseason.
