The Colorado Division of Wildlife has formed a partnership with Questar, a Salt Lake City-based energy company, to perform research on greater sage grouse habitat in northwest Colorado and south-central Wyoming.

The aim is to build on research performed by DOW researcher Tony Apa and University of Idaho researcher Tom Thompson since 2005. Questar, which has been active in the area since the 1920s, will provide funding for the effort.

DOW researcher Brett Walker will join the team to help identify important seasonal habits for grouse, which have been in decline for decades. Part of the impetus will be to identify ways to minimize impacts on grouse habitat from energy development.
