DENVER—Durango’s airport has set a passenger record for a second consecutive year.
The number of passengers who traveled through the Durango-La Plata Airport in 2007 totaled 115,690 despite a drop in passengers last fall, Aviation Director Ron Dent said. The record was a 2 percent increase from 113,387 passengers recorded in 2006.
“We had a very, very strong year, then October and November were down somewhat,” Dent said, citing higher fares and an economy that has consumers watching their dollars. “We’re crossing our fingers that things pick up.”
Last year, the airport ran a $140,000 marketing campaign which Dent said he hopes was effective.
A similar campaign for 2008 was delayed while airport officials awaited a decision from Denver-based Frontier Airlines about whether it will start service in Durango. Although they haven’t heard from Frontier officials, Dent said they will restart up the campaign in the near future.
