PORTLAND, Ore. — Polling complaints by Mitt Romney and John McCain are headed to a New Hampshire grand jury for consideration.
Pollster Bob Moore of Portland, Ore., agreed Wednesday to answer a New Hampshire grand-jury subpoena in an investigation into whether a survey conducted before the Jan. 8 New Hampshire primary met legal requirements for that state.
The survey included questions critical of Romney’s Mormon faith and others that appeared favorable to McCain.
New Hampshire law says that, under certain conditions, poll questions about an opposing candidate “which state, imply or convey information about the candidate’s character, status or political stance or record” amount to “push polling,” a negative campaign technique.
