A 4-year-old girl hospitalized in Colorado Springs on Tuesday with bruises across her body has died, officials said.

Madyson Bogard was pronounced dead at 9:41 p.m. Wednesday, according to Sgt. Mark Stevens of the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Madyson was found not breathing about 2 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment in the 3700 block of Rebecca Lane and was taken to Memorial Hospital, Stevens said.

The girl’s mother, Chrystie Marie Hardy, 23, and her boyfriend, Mark Alton Friend, 25, remain in jail for investigation of attempted murder and could now face additional charges, he said.

Police were originally told that the girl injured herself Monday after falling on ice.

Doctors discovered the child had many bruises and a serious head injury as well as signs of sexual abuse.

Police say witnesses told them that from October on, the girl’s mother and boyfriend had repeatedly struck the child.
