With tomorrow the day for filing figures in unsettled cases, teams are moving quickly to resolve contract situations with arbitration-eligible players today.
The biggest name to sign is Atlanta reliever Mike Gonzalez. A one-time closer for the Pirates and a set up man for the Braves last year before suffering an elbow injury, the left-hander signed a one-year deal for $2.36 million. He can earn an additional $200,000 if he finishes 60 games.
Other contracts confirmed by The Denver Post:
–Rays outfielder Jonny Gomes signed for $1.275 million. Gomes triggers a $25,000 incentive if he reaches 500 plate appearances.
–Pirates infielder Jose Bautista avoided arbitration with a $1.8-million deal.
–Toronto’s Brian Tallent agreed to a one-year deal for $640,000
The Rockies have five players eligible for arbitration — Matt Holliday, Garrett Atkins, Brian Fuentes, Brad Hawpe and Willy Taveras.
