Heavy Metal More than 30 North American artists will cast bronze and iron at this spectacular free weekend event, held after dark to showcase the molten metal. The artists will cast molds made by local students and residents, who get to keep the finished works. The final evening’s performance is preceded by a free public lecture from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Sonnenalp Hotel Library.
Socks for troops

Warm feet, warm hearts Homefront Heroes, a Colorado group supporting U.S. troops, is seeking donations of boot socks, as well as cash to buy more socks and ship them to the troops. Buy some socks from Army Navy surplus stores and bring your donations, along with valentines and care package items, to box up on Feb. 2 for military crews in Iraq.

Facts line Hear from Ritter, one of UNSCOM’s senior weapons inspectors in Iraq from 1991 to ’98, about his recent fact-finding tour of Iran. Ritter was an intelligence officer in the U.S. Marine Corps and analyzed Iraq’s missile capability in the 1991 Gulf War. Also on the bill: singer/songwriter Shawn Mullins and Dominican guitarist Puerto Plata.
