A federal immigration agent charged with improperly accessing a criminal-information database for Bob Beauprez’s gubernatorial campaign has been placed on unpaid leave, his supporters said today.

Cory Voorhis, 39, had been placed on administrative leave with pay from Immigration and Customs Enforcement pending the outcome of his federal criminal case.

Jeff Copp, special agent in charge of the Denver ICE office, could not be reached for comment today about Voorhis’ employment status or why it changed.

On Friday, Voorhis was notified by mail that he was losing his pay and benefits, said Mike Riebau, a spokesman for Voorhis’ legal defense fund and a former ICE agent.

Voorhis — a married father of two boys — also is losing his health and life insurance, Riebau said.

During the 2006 gubernatorial race, Beauprez used the information that Voorhis accessed about illegal immigrants in a series of ads questioning plea agreements then-Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter’s office made.
