FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Colorado State coach Steve Fairchild named former CSU quarterback Anthoney Hill as running backs coach Wednesday after offensive coordinator and running backs coach Curtis Modkins left for the NFL.
Modkins, hired Jan. 14 as offensive coordinator/running backs coach for CSU, joined the Kansas City Chiefs as running backs coach Wednesday. He rejoined new Chiefs offensive coordinator Chan Gailey, who had hired Modkins as a Georgia Tech assistant in 2002.
“Certainly we are sad to see Curtis leave,” Fairchild said, “but this is a good opportunity for him. It speaks highly of the quality of individuals we have attracted to Colorado State, that an NFL team would be interested in a member of our staff.”
Also Wednesday, Fairchild named Greg Peterson offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach. Peterson will keep his responsibilities as recruiting coordinator.
Fairchild was Hill’s position coach in 1994, when CSU finished 10-2 and went to the Holiday Bowl.
Hill, 36, most recently was head football coach at San Diego High School in 2007. He worked with wide receivers as a student assistant coach and peer mentor at Colorado State in 1998.
Fairchild, formerly the Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator, was hired by Colorado State in December to replace Sonny Lubick, who was let go after 15 seasons with the Rams.
