SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco Chronicle editor Phil Bronstein said he is resigning to take a new assignment for owner Hearst Corp., ending a colorful reign that included conflicts with the government and an attack by a Komodo dragon.
The Chronicle has won numerous awards under Bronstein, notably for its coverage of the federal government’s investigation into a steroids lab linked to well-known athletes. Bronstein also was married for six years to actress Sharon Stone.
