CANMORE, Alberta—Olympic champion Chandra Crawford charged to victory in the women’s freestyle sprint on her home course at Canmore Nordic Centre, winning her first World Cup gold medal Saturday.
“It’s really special to be racing here in Canmore where I took my first steps on skis and can ski to my house down that trail,” the 24-year-old Crawford said after the 1.2-kilometer six-racer final. “It’s a breakthrough day for me.”
Finland’s Pirjo Muranen was second, followed by Italy’s Magda Genuin.
Sweden’s Emil Joensson won the men’s race. Russia’s Ivan Ivanov was second, followed by Finland’s Matias Strandvall.
