San Diego State men’s coach Steve Fisher can relate to the struggles of first-year Colorado State coach Tim Miles.

Fisher’s first Aztecs team went 5-23 overall and 0-14 in the Mountain West Conference in the 1999-2000 season. The rebuilding Rams (6-13, 0-5) host San Diego State (14-6, 4-2) today.

“It’s well documented Tim is playing with walk-ons. I’m very impressed with what he’s done,” Fisher said. “For me, the luxury was coming home after a stressful day and looking out over a bluff at the Pacific Ocean. Maybe Tim can climb one of those mountains there.”

Tigers’ Hannah sidelined.

Missouri defeated Colorado on Saturday, then lost its best player just hours after returning home.

Senior guard Stefhon Hannah suffered a broken jaw early Sunday during an altercation outside a Columbia, Mo., nightspot. Hannah, who scored 13 points against the Buffaloes, is projected by the Tigers to be out six weeks.

“Right now (his return) is indefinite, because you never know how long it takes to recover from those things,” Missouri coach Mike Anderson said.

Colorado (9-10, 1-4 Big 12) plays at Iowa State (12-8, 2-3) today.

Poll power.

The Big 12 has five teams in the latest Associated Press top 25 — more than any other conference. It marks the first time since Feb. 8, 2005 (Kansas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech) that the Big 12 has had five squads ranked in the top 25.
