ST. PAUL—Organizers of the GOP National Convention reached out into cyberspace Tuesday, naming Ustream.TV as its official live video streaming provider as part of an effort to engage bloggers as well as traditional news organizations that won’t be at the Sept. 1-4 event.

Ustream.TV will provide live gavel-to-gavel coverage over the Internet. As part of the effort, Republican officials will participate in live video web chats and other online interviews over Ustream.TV leading up to and during the convention.

Approximately 45,000 delegates, alternates, volunteers, members of the media and other guests are expected to attend the convention at St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center.

Organizers of the Democratic National Convention in Denver also plan to Webcast their proceedings but have not yet announced a video provider, said Natalie Wyeth, a spokeswoman for the convention.
