Getting your player ready...

It’s almost here, so why not get ready?

Regis at Highlands Ranch on Tuesday is one of the most greatly awaited regular-season matchups in Class 5A girls basketball in years. Despite continuing to trail local boys basketball in attendance, their national rankings, matchups against out-of-state opponents and big-time scholarships landed have set them apart.

Decidedly more dynasty-oriented — three programs have combined for the past 10 big-school titles — girls play commands top billing with a 7 p.m. tipoff in the Continental League, which has produced eight 5A champs in succession.

As many as 10 Division I prospects will suit up.

The host Falcons, who own the past two 5A crowns and five since 2000, feature Alyssa Fressle, a University of Colorado signee, and are coached by Caryn Jarocki, who has won 378 games. Meanwhile, the newer Raiders are in their fourth season among Colorado’s elite, although subpar showings in the 2006 4A championship and 2007 5A semifinals made it seem fleeting. Coach Carl Mattei’s roster is balanced, won the past two league titles and includes leading scorer Mariah Williams.

The winner will make a statement; the loser is still OK.

Who thinks they won’t meet again in the 5A playoffs?
