The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team is ranked 20th in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Coaches preseason poll, released Wednesday.
The Pioneers return 16 players from last year’s team that posted a 9-7 overall record and 3-2 mark in the Great Western Lacrosse League, finishing third.
Fort Lewis in D-II regional rankings.
The Fort Lewis men’s and women’s basketball teams are the top Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams in the Division II regional rankings. The rankings form the basis for seedings for the NCAA Tournament.
Fort Lewis is fourth in the North Central women’s region, behind South Dakota, North Dakota and Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.). Metro State is 10th.
In the North Central men’s region, Fort Lewis is sixth, Colorado Christian eighth and Adams State ninth. Winona (Minn.) State is No. 1.
RMAC coaches like Lions.
The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs softball team is the preseason choice of RMAC coaches to win the East Division this year. Western New Mexico was picked to win the West Division.
Mesa State favored in baseball.
RMAC coaches picked Mesa State to win the RMAC Mountain Division and the overall title. CSU-Pueblo edged Nebraska-Kearney as the choice to win the Plains Division.
Metro State catcher Reece Gorman was chosen preseason player of the year. Nebraska-Kearney’s Ryan Wrobel was selected preseason pitcher of the year.
Ex-DU goalie getting shot with Real Salt Lake.
Matt Bredehoft, a former University of Denver goalkeeper, will be one of 30 players competing for a roster spot with Real Salt Lake when the Major League Soccer team conducts a preseason training camp in California starting this weekend.
Bredehoft was an all-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation selection as a senior last season, posting five shutouts and a 0.81 goals-against average.
Rage loses in shootout.
The Laredo Bucks won the shootout 2-1, sending the visiting Rocky Mountain Rage to a 4-3 Central Hockey League loss.
The Rage tied the game on third-period goals from Nathan Rosychuk and Scott Wray.
