Denver gets a new magazine Friday night: Denver Magazine. The 128-page glossy will debut at a party for 1,000 bold namespromising to be the glam throwdown of the winter.
Publisher Michael Ledwitz and editor Dahlia Weinstein promise a party with some big-time athletes (think Rockies) and a magazine celebrating the city more than investigating it.
Ledwitz says he’ll have an initial run of 35,000 — sent free to high-income neighborhoods and hotel rooms, and available on magazine racks for $5.95. He’s aiming to level off at 80,000 copies.
The team avoids comparison to other city mags, i.e., 5280, Shine, Colorado Expression.
“We’re a city of almost 3 million people,” Ledwitz says. “Don’t we deserve more than two or three magazines to read?”
If you miss the invite-only party, head downtown, where various bars are hosting Denver Magazine afterparties. Expect parties to surround every bimonthly (for now) edition of Denver Magazine, says Weinstein.
I’m in.
Donkey Kong.
It’s a big week for the Colorado Democratic Party. Barack Obama came to the University of Denver’s Magness Arena on Wednesday morning to talk the talk. Bill Clinton was to be at the JW Marriott and DU’s Ritchie Center on Wednesday night.
Then on Friday, CDP chief Pat Waak turns 65. She plans to celebrate 6-9 p.m. at Plus + Gallery with Gov. Bill Ritter, Mayor John Hickenlooper, Josh Hanfling, Chris Meza — and you, for a donation to the Dems.
It’s an honor.
Landri Taylor (veep of community affairs for Forest City Stapleton) and Jim “Dr. Daddy-O” Walker (radio personality and former owner of KDKO radio) are inducted into the Colorado Blacks Hall of Fame on Saturday at the Ford-Warren Library. “I thought I had to be dead to get an honor like this,” says Taylor. Adds Dr. Daddy-O: “I’m very excited about it, but it was way late! I guess good things come to those who wait.”
Current hall-of-famers include Wellington and Wilma Webb, Syl Morgan-Smith, Penfield Tate Sr., Dr. Justina Ford and Daddy Bruce Randolph.
I’m too sexy.
Victoria’s Secret is back at the Super Bowl — running ads during the game and hosting a party Saturday night at Taste Ultra Lounge in Scottsdale, Ariz. Lingerie chain Angels Adriana Lima, Karolina Kurkova and Selita Ebanks will host — and salute its roster of What’s Sexy 2008. Colorado is nicely repped by Javon Walker as Sexiest Wide Receiver and Boulder babe Jessica Biel for Sexiest Lips.
City spirit.

Thanks to YouTube, Denverite Jeffrey Hughes gets to play violin at the Grammys with the Foo Fighers’ Orchestra. . . .
