DENVER—Season ticket holders would be able to re-sell their tickets on their own under a bill given initial approval by the Senate on Friday.
Under the proposal (Senate Bill 24), sports teams and other venue operators wouldn’t be able to tell people they can’t offer their tickets on ticket re-seller Web sites or place any other restrictions on them.
The bill was amended to make it clear that season ticket holders can only sell individual tickets, not their priority number to buy season ticket packages.
Sen. Lois Tochtrop introduced it after season ticket holders said the Denver Broncos were forcing them to sell their unwanted tickets through their ticket exchange.
However, the Broncos have told lawmakers that their policy was misunderstood and that season ticket holders haven’t lost tickets for not using the team’s ticket exchange. Broncos chief operating officer Joe Ellis testified that the team’s exchange is the only way to make sure that fans are able to buy tickets that are real.
The bill must pass another vote before being sent to the House.
