A 23-year-old Arvada woman believed to have been intoxicated was killed early this morning after she drove off southbound Colorado 25 near Erie and was thrown from her car.

The name of the woman is being withheld pending notification of family, said Gilbert Mares, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol.

The woman was driving a black 1992 Mazda Miata just East of Erie at about 2 a.m. when she swerved off the right side of the road, struck a post, a highway sign, a fence and a stack of flagstone, Mares said.

The woman was not wearing a seat belt and apparently had been drinking alcohol, he said.
