ap Inc. said Tuesday that Michael “Mac” Tully has joined the company as president and publisher of the San Jose Mercury News and as vice president of its California Bay Area news group.
As publisher of the Mercury News, Tully replaces Jeff Kiel, who stepped down. Tully comes from the Kansas City Star, where he had been publisher since 2005. Before that, he was a vice president at Knight Ridder, responsible for 18 newspapers.
Denver-based MediaNews, the fourth-largest newspaper company, is the owner of The Denver Post.
