A house fire jumped from one home to another Wednesday morning in Boulder, and firefighters doused both blazes.

An alert passer-by called 911 about 4:50 a.m. to report heavy smoke in a Boulder neighborhood, and firefighters were able to quickly find the blazes, said Sarah Huntley, a Boulder police spokeswoman.

The initial fire at a home in the 200 block of Seminole Drive had spread to another house just north of it, Huntley said.

Five adults, including two University of Colorado students, were alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm at the first house and escaped without injury.

The second home was vacant, Huntley said.

Firefighters saved a dog and a cat from the fire.
