COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A Colorado Springs jury has more work ahead after failing to reach a verdict in the trial of a man charged with killing a police detective.
Jurors deliberated about four hours Wednesday before stopping for the day in the case of 32-year-old Jereme Lamberth.
He’s charged with first-degree murder in the February 2006 death of Colorado Springs Police Detective Jared Jensen. The 30-year-old Jensen was trying to arrest Lamberth on an attempted murder charge when Jensen was shot in the face.
Lamberth was wanted for allegedly trying to stab his sister to death.
Defense attorneys say Jensen never identified himself as a police officer, and that Lamberth was only trying to defend himself.
Lamberth faces life in prison without parole if convicted as charged.
