The long road to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup could involve a swing through Commerce City this fall.

The U.S. Soccer Federation announced Thursday that Dick’s Sporting Goods Park is one of six sites being considered to host its three possible home matches in the semifinal round of qualifying for the Cup.

If the U.S. team advances out of the second round, which starts June 15, the semifinal home games would be Sept. 10, Oct. 11 and Nov. 19.

Also being considered to host the semifinal games are Bridgeview, Ill.; Columbus, Ohio; Frisco, Texas; Seattle; and Washington, D.C. A timetable for the decision was not set by the federation.
