Interstate 70 through the Colorado mountains has reopened after high winds and blowing snow forced it to shut down overnight.
Traffic was moving by about noon Friday.
Eastbound lanes had been shut down Thursday night from Vail to Georgetown and westbound lanes from Beaver Brook to Vail.
That delayed Front Range residents trying to reach the state’s biggest ski resorts and stranded some motorists already in the mountains. The town of Vail set up shelters for them.
Berthoud and Loveland passes remain closed because of the weather.
Heavy snow caused a portion of the roof of the Western State College library in Gunnison to collapse.
This season’s snowfall is approaching record levels in some areas of Colorado. Statewide, the snowpack was 134 percent of the 30-year average on Friday.
