Beer-pairing Dinner
Join beer-vangelist Marty Jones and brewers from Left Hand Brewing at a beer-pairing dinner Monday in Longmont. “It will make converts out of folks who have the misconception that wine is the only drink to serve with a fine meal,” says Jones. Dinner begins at 7 p.m., and seating is limited to 40. Cost is $40 per person and includes grilled scallops and shrimp; warm asparagus and Hazel Dell mushroom salad with Haystack goat-milk feta; mustard-crusted pork; smoked cheddar souffle with carmelized apples; and double chocolate flourless cake with stout ice cream. Boney’s Barbecue
Downtown office-rats tired of Subway would do well to wander over to Boney’s Barbecue, located in a stand- alone booth in the northern reaches of Writers’ Square, where they’ll find honest, rib-sticking pulled-pork sandwiches, with a drink and side of cole slaw, for only $6.95. If that’s not lunch, we don’t know what is. They cater, too. 16th and Lawrence streets, 303-573-0015. Tucker Shaw
Rachel’s Yogurt
This Broomfield company makes yogurt so good the samples were gobbled up before they made it to the food editor’s desk. The yogurt thieves left a note: “They rock! Best local product in a long time!” We tracked down the culprit, who said she doesn’t even like most yogurt because it’s too sweet and the flavors are boring but that she loved the new “Refresh” pink grapefruit and lychee. The other new flavor in this all-natural line is marionberry-guava. Look for Rachel’s at natural grocers. Kristen Browning-Blas
